Im due december and its my first, i am terrified that i will have diabeties during this pregnancy, i hate needles and having to do the normal blood tests are bad enough.  My sister had diabeties during pregnancy.  Anyone have anything similar?

God i had it all lol.

My first i had gestational diabeties.  It was diet controled, meaning i was starving but couldnt eat.  I had to use a glycometer 4 times a day.  I also had pre-ecclampsia.

It also depends on your family history, both my parents have diabeties so i was kind of doomed even before i began.  My sister however didnt get it (grrr).  So it depends on your own health also.

The needles used are not anything like the needles used to take blood.  They are smaller and dont hurt as much.  My second pregnancy i was on insulin 4 times a day as well as testing 4 times a day so i was full of holes ha ha.

I did manage to get away with out diabeties after the first pregnancy but after the second my sugar levels were slightly high, and while im not a diabetic they have put me on glucophage to help prevent it.

But as things go just enjoy the pregnancy, be careful what you eat and look out for these symptoms
    *  Increased thirst
    * Increased urination
    * Weight loss in spite of increased appetite
    * Fatigue
    * Nausea and vomiting
    * Frequent infections including those of the bladder, vagina, and skin
    * Blurred vision

Although you will probably find that you will use the toilet more and be fatigued anyway, the best sign i had was if i had just eaten and then suddenly got sleepy.  They dip your urine anyway to test for sugars so dont worry.
